Publix Markets are exclusively test marketing four new “Spicy” items for Boar’s Head foods.

They have stated that they want to introduce products to compete with all of the new spicy foods that other companies are introducing.

The new items include a Three Pepper Colby Jack Cheese, a Chipotle Gouda Cheese, a Spicy Jerk Turkey, and a Spicy Ham.

I tried all four of the items at a sample table they had set up in my local Publix Grocery.

The Boar’s Head Three Pepper Colby Jack Cheese pictured above is an excellent product.
I plan to buy more of it, and have it sliced 3/4 inch thick, so that I can take it home and cut it further into 3/4 inch cubes, and serve them on a cheese tray with a tooth pick inserted into each.

This Three Pepper Colby Jack Cheese is far, far better tasting than the well known pepper jack cheese that is found in many markets. It has a nice heat level from the peppers. Not intensely hot, but, hot enough to get your attention, and even leave a nice after-burn. This would also be a great cheese to serve in thick slices on a grilled hamburger.

I also tried the Boar’s Head Chipotle Gouda, and that cheese is a winner also. Not much heat, however, the Gouda flavor, and the Chipotle flavor both come through very nicely. It would be great melted on a hamburger also, and would also work extremely well on a cheese plate cut into cubes.

You can see the flakes of Chipotle Pepper in the high quality Gouda Cheese.

The Boar’s Head Spicy Jerk Turkey that is part of the marketing test is not bad. It has a mild Jerk flavor, and a tiny bit of heat. Not nearly as much as most of us would want to see, but, still noticeable. Would make a nice change from regular sliced turkey on a sandwich.

The Boar’s Head Spicy Ham was the most disappointing of the bunch. It had very little spice and was nothing special.

If these products prove popular in the trial testing at Publix Markets, they will probably be added to the Boar’s Head lineup that is found at most deli counters.

The sample table had a nice recipe card for Quesadillas with Spicy Jerk Turkey and Chipotle Gouda.
They also gave me a very nice free recipe book titled “Now You’re Cooking.”
The cookbook features a number of great sounding recipes featuring Boar’s Head meats and cheeses.

I think that Boar’s Head has a winner with the new Three Pepper Colby Jack Cheese, as well as with the new Chipotle Gouda Cheese. Try to get by your Publix Market and give these a try, as it will help them make it to being regular Boar’s Head products. Also, give the Spicy Jerk Turkey a try, if you want something a little different from standard sliced turkey.

The Boar’s Head Website is www.boarshead.com
However, you will not find anything there about these 4 new products yet, as they are still being test marketed only at Publix.
