Welcome!
You love to BBQ, you love to cook and you truly care about how food tastes. That means you came to the right place. This opening sentence was written for me by “Arizona Rubs”. I love to barbeque and I use a lot of rubs. Today we are going to sample two rubs from the Scovie award winning company of Arizona Rub. “Rattlesnake’ is a combination of peppers and spice that include pure sea salt. ‘Pistol Whip’ has the addition of habanero peppers to pack some punch to this rub. We are going to fire up the grill and cook some chicken and flank steak for a taco fiesta. Let’s start rubbing.

Ingredients;

We will start with the “Pistol Whip”. Brown sugar, sea salt, chili powder, paprika, habanero, cayenne, black pepper, garlic, onion, crushed red pepper, ground coriander, and ground cumin are the list of ingredients to this rub. There is also a claim of no MSG, wheat gluten, fillers or artificial ingredients.

The Rattlesnake has the same ingredients minus the ground coriander and habanero.

Aroma and Texture;

The Rattlesnake has a pleasant cumin and pepper aroma. The Pistol Whip does not have as much of a cumin hit but does smell deliciously of peppers. They both have a vibrant red hue of color. Flakes of pepper and seeds are present.

Taste:

Pistol Whip sprinkled on the back of my hand and licked off like a big puppy produced a sweet peppery sensation on my tongue. The salt was not overpowering and the peppers produced a very slight tingle on the tongue tip.

Rattlesnake rub had the same flavor minus the heat. The flavors in both of these rubs tasted fresh and vibrant. I could taste the black pepper, sea salt, and brown sugar.

Heat:

These rubs are all about the flavor. The heat department will not tip the meter very high today. Rattlesnake will rank 1 star out of 5. Pistol Whip with the addition of habanero had a nice little bite. 1.5 stars out of 5 for this combination of spices.

Food;

Flank steak and chicken breast were divided and rubbed with each rub. We let the meats rest in the refrigerator for 30 minutes as suggested by the label. These meats were grilled over a mesquite fire. The meats were sliced and tacos were formed. These rubs delivered in the taste department. The chicken especially complimented this concoction of peppers and spice. Ms. Goofy my wife thought the chicken with the ‘Pistol Whip’ had a nice pepper bite. I agree that both of the rubs had lots of flavor. The balance of sugar, salt and peppers seasoned the meat fabulously. The tacos were a tasty hit.

Overall:

Both of these rubs had fresh and flavorful spice components. We preferred the Pistol Whip for its slight habanero heat jolt. Fresh ingredients are the key to this rubs success. We enjoyed the seasoning it provided. Arizona Rubs are a welcome addition to our barbeque repertoire.
