Blair’s Death Sauce iPhone/iPad App

If you missed the Eat More Heat broadcast a while back where Wreck  had Blair on for the upcoming Halloween Reserve, they also talked about an iPhone/iPad application that was looming in the near future. Well my friends, the future is here! I was tweeting last night in bed… Get your mind out of the gutter, and I just happened to be on when Blair tweeted that the app had gone live. I quickly hopped over to the App Store and there it was and I installed it immediately. It’s a free app, which is always cool, “Free is for Me”!!

The app is kinda basic right now, Blair says it’s the version 1.0 and they are already working on the next version and we can expect a whole lot more with it’s update. I’m pretty excited. So what is it you ask… It’s a Blair’s Reserve collector’s dream come true in a phone app. Have you ever longed for a custom, personalized reserve bottle from the man?? Well now you can do it!! I’m going to take you on a tour of app, for those of you with an iPhone or iPad, feel free to follow along. And for those that don’t, hopefully this will give you a good feel of what is it. I do know also that they are in the works on an Android app now and it shouldn’t be to long before you get get the app there as well.

The app opens up with a cool intro with music and everything, they went all out on this thing. It then brings you to this “Create Reserve” screen. The graphics are to cool, the skeleton kinda shivers in the moving flames, it’s pretty neat.

Next Blair throws out the challenge, lol!! Are ya sure you want to do this?? If you want to “Feel Alive” you must tap the box to proceed, enter at your own risk.

From here you get to choose your bottle, there are 10 bottle shapes/sizes for you to choose from and they range in price. The pricing begins $150.00 and tops out at $2,000.00. You can tap on each bottle to get a description including it’s dimensions. The Mac Daddy bottle is called the Baccarat Crystal Firestorm. Its 11 1/2 inches tall and holds 800ml, and we pretty much have to take Blair’s word on how “Absolutely Spectacular” it is. The entire app is animation, so the pic of the bottle is a cartoon bottle. For the price and knowing what detail and pain staking care Blair takes on each and every Reserve, there is a point where I feel the “How Man, what am I going to get!!” reaction takes over. Our next step in this creative journey is choosing your sauce, your weapon of choice as they say. In this section you have the option of selecting from 5 either sauces or powder or crystals. Blair starts off with something he’s calling “Blair’s Homemade Brew”. It’s a “Unique” Death blend with more of these unique blends to come. To the other end of the spectrum, you get your Reserve withe 16 Million pure capsaicin crystals, the hottest of the hot!!OK, now to picking your wax resin color, Blair gives you 4 choices in this round. Blue, Gold, Red, or Yellow, its up to you on which color gets to ooze around the stem of your bottle. It will be a background base color for the next few steps in the building of your perfect bottle. After the wax comes the Blair’s signature Skull Charm!! You’ve got 3 choices on this page as well. You can go old school and stay with the traditional skull or choose between the Platinum or Gold skulls, they both look cool and add a bling to the bottle. The later 2 choices do come with an additional charge but well worth the investment if you’re going to do it and do it right in my opinion. Onto to the finishing touches of your custom Reserve, the wax drizzle. Blair gives you 2 different and sepaerate drizzle colors to choose, each time you get 6 color options to choose from. You can really get creative here and mix & match some cool color combinations. Again, this is your baby, and it’s going to look just the way you want it to.The next section is naming your Reserve and adding a personalized message to it. Every Reserve has Blair’s personal signature and this app takes the next step in really setting it apart from anything thing else. You can add up to 95 characters of info into the message section giving you I think a ton of stuff for Blair to work with, let your imagination take over.

From here you name and save your info, this is where you make the determination on whether to go forward and buy of if it was just fun to play around and create. You can save your creations, maybe go back and change colors and skulls, or just holding on to the bottle details till ya think up the cool message you  want to attach. The app places your creations on “Your” Wall of Flame. If you want to proceed and buy, it gives you the option. If you want to share your newly created bottle you can share it on FaceBook, tweet it, or send it via email.

Wild… And a Blair’s Collector’s ultimate prize. I’m blown away at the concept and wish Blair and his team much success with this. I am also excited to see the direction it grows in, what cool new features come up, and how the app with grow and form to the feedback Blair gets from it. Personilaztion on high end sauces, Hmmm…. What will they come up with next!!??!!

  1. Wow! The bottom just fell out of the Reserve Market value….I thought I had something kinda unique but now he is just going to crank out any a person wants to design and pay for.

    I am bummed….

  2. Really?? I don’t see it that way, to me I see it as an add on or compliment to a persons collection. Because Billy Bob buys himself a $2000 bottle he had personal creative design in is in no way going to have any effect on how valuable my Caldera is or my 6am. They are two different animals, apples vs oranges. Besides, not matter what you think a value is, it’s only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it. As a collector, I don’t particularly have a desire to own someone elses personalized bottle THEY made, even if it was made by Blair’s. It doesn’t change the landscape of Blair’s retail/reserve pieces to me because they are truly not that same mold. I look for those true Reserves, the commercially available pieces. Billy Bob’s bottle may be cool, but I don’t want it/ wouldn’t pay for….

I would get one or more of these because it adds ME value not resale value. Just like any personalized bottle that would come from any producer. The value is in the heart, because it’s cool. Ammond, I know I have a bit of a different take on my collecting style. I have NO intentions of selling/reselling any of my bottles and I don’t really care what a resale value would be…. It’s priceless to me, a part of who I am.

  3. Android please.

  4. I agree with Vic. A personalized bottle has nothing to do with Blair’s reserves and other retail releases. A personalized bottle might enhance a collectors collection by personalizing it, but that bottle would really only be truly collectable to the one who designs it for themselves or for a loved one. This of course is only my humble opinion.

  5. I can create my own bottles?????? How am I going to afford that? ;-)

WHAT’S UP ALL THE OLD HSBers!!! Miss U guys!

  6. That’s super cool. I hope it doesn’t kill the collectability of reserves…

  7. Eman and cheffy all in one post……I love it..Great to see you guys and hope to see more of you…..

  8. I have changed my song to a different tune. I still appreciate my collection and others. I’d love to see pictures of more collections…I think it would encourage the market and others. I was shocked at first. My son and I have been trying to get a 1 of 1 off Blair for a little over three years. The fact that it was so rare appealed to me even more. But now it just takes money…and that’s okay.

Vic- It is apples and oranges. The more rare they are the more desirable, But if my family decided to order me a bottle say for Christmas, I don’t think I would be to sad. It’s not so much resale value but having something special and unique. I don’t plan on ever selling my collection either. I have though changed my focus…I like talking to the producers and being involved with it and helping promote. I don’t get paid for it but it just feels good to be a part of something healthy and down to Earth. I have gotten offered ridicules amounts of money for some of my collection (down right shocking amounts of money) and I have not sold…It’s just not about that. My son and I both have collections now and it’s really neat to see him get so excited.

Vic…you are a proprietor of an amazing hot sauce Museum! You are recording hot sauce history. Meanwhile the rest of us are just trying to keep up. :-)

I am looking forward to the next edition of his app.

  9. I think the app is cool, and I have bought Blairs Halloween Reserves the last few years and I buy a quantity obviously for resale and I have ended up selling some for less than I paid……I would think a one of a kind would sell for more so that makes me afraid to buy the regular reserves anymore as an investment…..I will always respect Blair but I think that this hurts the investment value of his reserves…If your keeping them forever then no worries!
