KISSIMMEE, FL (WFTV/CNN) – A special needs teacher in Florida could lose her job for allegedly using hot sauce to keep students in line.
“I was really upset. I couldn’t believe it, honestly, I was like how can a teacher of so many years do something like that,” said Karina Holguin, aunt of the victims
School officials and parents are trying understand why a special needs teacher would use hot sauce on autistic children at Sunrise Elementary in Kissimmee, Fl.
“I was just shocked, and confused,” Holguin said.
Lillian Gomez allegedly poured hot sauce on the children’s crayons because the students apparently kept putting them in their mouths.
“They got to be traumatized, especially for a kid who can’t express himself,” Holguin said.
The family said after the teacher doused the crayons in hot sauce, the boys refused to touch them for weeks.
When district officials found out, Gomez was removed from the classroom and suspended. The Superintendent has requested she be fired.
A termination hearing for the teacher is set for later in February.
