“Oregon Dan’s”, ‘All Natural Cooking and Grilling Sauces’ are on the plate today. “’Oregon Dan’s will give your taste buds a tantalizing twang they will not easily forget” is the claim to fame for this line of sauces from “Ultimate Edibles LLC”. These sauces are sweetened with organic agave nectar. This sweetener is the new darling of the food industry. Agave nectar is sweeter than sugar and claims to be natural and healthy. Agave is used instead of high fructose corn syrup and results in a low glycemic product. Low glycemic foods keep energy levels balanced and are a good part of a healthy diet. Low on sodium and gluten free, this sauce may pass as health food. Will it pass the taste test? This is the question we will try to answer. Oregon Dan’s has five different flavors to try: “Original, Medium, Habanero, Apricot and a Red Wine Marinade”. Over several weekends we tried the Original, Medium, Habanero and Apricot.

The following are items and companies I've chosen as featuring the best that have been released or that I've encountered for the first time during the 2011 calendar year. To qualify, this product either had to be released after January 1, 2011 or I would have tasted it for the very first time in the past year. Believe me, there were dozens of worthy sauces, seasonings and food enhancers I would have loved to include and so many product manufacturers that deserved a mention. But I had to narrow it down to the creme de la creme and give the "Scottvies" (with apologies to Dave DeWitt) to my top choices in each category.

We are having a barbeque on this crisp and cold November day. We have invited SuckleBusters to the party. SuckleBusters is a hot sauce, spice and condiment company located in Texas. They have won the Chilepepper magazines fiery food award for their barbeque sauce. That is one smokin endorsement. Today they will have to pass muster with two certified barbeque judges, Ms. Goofy and myself, Chilebrown. We will rub down some chicken with SuckleBusters “Hoochie Mama BBQ Rub”. The chicken will be bathed in a fiery bath of smoke and heat from a mesquite fire. Sucklebusters claims that their products are ‘Bustin’ with flavor. They are made ‘Texas Style’. Texas Style means big and bold yet simple. We shall see. Let’s get cooking!.

Ever the fan of BBQ, again I was pretty excited to receive the box from Hack’s. When I ripped into it, like always, like a little kid at Christmas and yanked the bottle out of the box for closer inspection, the color of the sauce through the bottle peaked my interest. “Wow. it’s dark!” And as I twisted and turned the bottle to examine it closer, I saw little movement of the sauce. The sauce inside moved at it’s own pace, real slow. Kinda like me, in no particular hurry. So doing what most Red Blooded American’s would so close to the Labor Day extended weekend in preparation of firing up the grill and getting our BBQ on, I cracked into that bad boy. In really debating and pondering over this now for a little while, the best explanation I could convey to you is, this is NOT a BBQ Sauce… It is more accurately to be described as a BBQ Paste. When I said earlier it moved at it’s own pace, it’s almost an understatement. This super thick sauce/paste likes the confines of it’s home bottle and almost needs to be coaxed out. It is the thickest BBQ I have ever used. I went to Hack’s website and was surprised to only find a scattering of mentions to it’s thickness, in my humble opinion, I would key in on it. Market it that way, it is what it is. If that thick shoe fits… Wear it!!

Barbeque season is in full swing. At the Chilebrown household the fire pits are cooking every weekend. It seems that we can never get enough barbeque. We have two sauces from ‘Russ & Franks’ to slather on our tasty grilled meats today. ‘Russ & Frank’ makes an ‘All Natural’, no high fructose corn syrup, no preservatives and gluten free bbq sauce. They are multiple ‘Scovie Award winners” We have two flavors stepping up to the grill today; The ‘Fiery and the X-Fiery’. “Gentlemen, Start your barbeques.”

It took one taste and customers immediately began clammering for our product. After a decade of requests to bottle and sell it for home use, I decided that it was about time we did something about it. In 2009, I began producing the steak sauces for retail sale and finally brought Croix Valley Steak Sauces to the market. Our steak sauces are hand crafted in small batches using only the finest ingredients. While our sauces are the perfect complement to any fine steak, Croix Valley Steak Sauces are superb on chicken, pork, burgers, vegetables and all of your favorite grilled meats. We've changed a lot of minds over the years of those who say a good steak doesn't need a sauce. One try and you'll agree that a good steak is made excellent with Croix Valley Steak Sauces.

Debuting yet another barbecue sauce in an already flooded market can be a risky proposition, so this had better be an outstanding product. Read on to see what I thought...

Ingredients:Tomato concentrate, vinegar, organic brewed Chai tea, corn syrup, salt, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, honey, brown sugar, Chipotle peppers, natural smoke flavor and natural spices.

Aroma: 4 out of 5. Zesty and tangy, with a dash of smokiness.

Tortuga Rum Company LTD. is the brainchild of Robert & Carlene Hamaty that started back in 1984. In 1987 they expanded the business to include a now world famous Tortuga rum cake. they sinc have expanded their business with bakeries & stores throughout 3 islands in the caribbean. I'm not sure when they added sauces to their line but I'm going to start with the steak sauce.

Welcome back to Buen Apetito’s Mexican grill. Today we will try a handcrafted smoky sweet chipotle barbeque sauce. This is a third place Scovie award winner in the ‘Chipotle Hot’ sauce category. This sauce has some great components like; coffee, molasses, chipotle and habanero peppers. Barbeque sauce can be many different things to lots of people from specific regions. Kansas is known for their sweet tomato based sauces. The Carolina’s may prefer vinegar based sauce. In Alabama, of all things mayonnaise based sauce may be preferred. This sauce is a tomato hot/sweet based sauce. I am guessing that it may go quit well with some ‘Burnt Ends’ that we will be smoking today. It is time to try some barbeque sauce.

Patter Fam’s Hot Barbecue Sauce

The color scheme on the Patter Fam Hot Barbecue Sauce is typical of Patter Fam, a solid and complimentary color scheme with subtle graphics. It consists of a nice yellow and orange scheme with highlights of, well, BBQ Sauce red/brown. It compliments the color of the sauce very well. Some sharp flames accent the bottom of the label. Overall, it is subtle, yet distinct.

Appearance:

This is a much thinner sauce than I am used to seeing. It looks almost like it needs a sprayer nozzle on the top to coat the meat. Well, maybe not THAT thin, but definitely a liquid sauce with slight viscosity. It is a nice reddish brown color with chile seeds suspended throughout.

Introduction:
McCane’s Southern Fixin’s Sweet Pit Sauce.

Label:
All of the labels on McCane’s Southern Fixin’s products are short sweet and to the point. It has a sense that you would find it sitting on a picnic table at a family gathering. It is endearing and I like simple but the quality of the actual label leaves a little to be desired and while its simplicity is nice, it is not likely to jump off the shelf.

Straight from the bottle....After the first taste I immediately went for another. After tasting you can see why the ingredient list is as long as it is.The clever concoction of spices along with the fruit make this a very unique taste. Its not your "average Joe" type of sauce, you can really appreciate the complexity and perfect blend of all the ingredients. Continue reading →

This is the 2nd root beer B.B.Q. sauce I said I would review. If you're like me and you LOVE!!!!!!!!! Root Beer, here is a website that reviews root beers, the root beer website reviews root beers like we review hot peppers and hot food. This is an awesome website.Root Beer The website gives Sprecher brand root beer an 89 out of a 100 with 100 being the best. I agree it is a good root beer. As I said before, I do not like B.B.Q. sauces that list ketchup as the first ingredient, or list it at all. I tend not to buy them if they do, but this was one time where I did not bother reading the ingredients because I love root beer. After I got it home and looked at the ingredients, guess what? The first thing listed is ketchup. I know some people like ketchup-based B.B.Q. sauces. If you do, then despite what I think, give it a try. Continue reading →
