You think you've tackled ultra-hot products before? Very few things have likely remotely close to Texas Creek Products Pure Evil SHU Capsaicin Drops. This stuff comes in a 1/2 ounce dropper bottle and contains pure 15-16 million SHU crystalline capsaicin, along with water, alcohol, ascorbic acid (aka Vitamin C) and xanthan. Although it should ONLY be used as a food additive (and even so it would be extreme), I tried about 6 drops straight on my tongue.

You would not believe the amount of heat from this. You know, I love a good chile pain and a burn, but this product crosses the line into "bad pain" territory. It stopped being pleasant. It's unreal. It's an absolutely unrelenting burn that, unlike super-hot peppers or extracts, doesn't go away until well after 30 minutes. At around 60-90 minutes after taking some of this, a lot of the discomfort went away yet I still felt the heat on my tongue where the drops fell and my lips were numb.

I would advise all of you, even seasoned chileheads, NOT to try this product like this. It's convinced me to never do another heat challenge or contest again. Where else would you go from here? there's nothing more to prove. I'm going to stick to nice, clean burns that come naturally from chile peppers. NO more extracts or capsaicin.

By the way, pure capsaicin does NOT thankfully have the nasty flavor of chile pepper extract. It's a good, clean taste. As I point out in the video, the only disagreeable taste is that of the alcohol used in the Pure Evil Drops. I don't think this would effect the overall flavor of whatever food to which you're adding this, such as a bowl of chile or a saucepan of taco seasoned beef.

The dropper bottle comes on a collector's tin and costs $19.99 plus shipping on the Texas Creek Products website.

According to its website, this sauce was originally concocted for a family-owned restaurant in Peoria, Illinois Mexican restaurant called Pepe Taco, which was known for having "Mexican Food for American Tastes." Rob Schunk, owner of Pepe Taco, retired from the restaurant business but still makes the Señor Roberto's Hot Sauce. Even though the website claims that this condiment is great for "pizza, wings and much more", I'm still eager to put it through its paces on Mexican cuisine...

Cajun peppers and Jamaican rum in ‘Johny Five’ sauce promises to get our taste buds tingling today. Voodoo may contribute to the hypnotic flavors. Johny Five has a unique mix of different peppers that includes the Banana pepper. This sauce is made by 'Threatcon Kitchens Inc.' located in Orlando Florida. We will sample this sauce on its own and then with some steak and a stuffed chicken medallion. Let’s see if the Voodoo can bring some magic.

“It Will Light Your Ass Up!” How is that for an opening line? Firefly ‘Garlic Fire’ hot sauce boldly claims this on their hot sauce label. Firefly hot sauce is made by ‘Passage Creek Farm’ in the Shenandoah Valley of Tennessee. This is a small farm that uses all organic practices. They make several different flavors of sauce and today ‘Garlic Fire’ is on the plate. We happen to love garlic and are looking forward to chasing the vampires away. We will try this sauce straight out of the bottle and with some home made corn dogs. Continue reading →

Famous Dave Anderson is an icon in the worlds of barbecue and business. He operates southern-style bbq restaurants in 37 states that have garnered over 500 various awards since opening in 1994. One of the claims to fame at his eateries is the bbq sauce which won the prestigious award for "Best Sauce on the Planet" at The American Royal in 1995. Dave knows barbecue sauce! It is always great to find a local hot sauce producer. ‘Pretty Dog Hot Sauce” is made in Berkeley,California. ‘I can almost see Berkeley from my backyard.’ Pretty Dog Hot Sauce’ is a very new business venture that we would like to support. Peter Fikaris, the owner, bottler, distributor and promoter is currently making his sauces in a commercial kitchen located at ‘Addies Pizza Pie”. This is the pizza palace that he works at. What is fun about his sauces are all the unique ingredients. Today we are trying a mixture of the very hot ‘Black Scorpion’ and Habanero peppers and grapefruit. Another unusual ingredient is black garlic. Black garlic has a unique fermented flavor. Peter is currently making his sauces in limited quantities. You can find his sauces at several local restaurants or you can contact him directly for mail order.

‘El Beso Del Diablo’ translated means ‘Kiss of the Devil” Lucy, our sweet puppy has very sharp teeth and claws. Sometimes we wonder if we should have named her Lucifer. Are we getting the ‘Kiss of the Devil’? We are today with a hot sauce from our friends at Buen Apetito. Buen Apetito is a Mexican restaurant located in Waterville Maine. They have consistently created and sold delicious hot and barbeque sauces. This sauce is a combination of ‘Naga Bhut Jolokia (Ghost Peppers) and red habaneros. It sounds like a potent combination. This sauce is sweetened with agave nectar. Today we are going to “Lakeman’s Club’ to have ‘Bucky’ our local resident hot sauce expert give us a hand tasting this sauce. You know I love hot sauce and thought I could consume hot peppers until I met Bucky. Bucky has a stomach of cast iron and loves his peppers. He has the nose, taste and fortitude for an honest opinion. We will also try this hot sauce with some grilled vegetables, hamburger and a breakfast sandwich. Pucker up and lets ‘Beso Del Diablo’.

The following are items and companies I've chosen as featuring the best that have been released or that I've encountered for the first time during the 2011 calendar year. To qualify, this product either had to be released after January 1, 2011 or I would have tasted it for the very first time in the past year. Believe me, there were dozens of worthy sauces, seasonings and food enhancers I would have loved to include and so many product manufacturers that deserved a mention. But I had to narrow it down to the creme de la creme and give the "Scottvies" (with apologies to Dave DeWitt) to my top choices in each category.

Please bear with me as I speak with an upper respiratory infection. I hope my scratchy voice isn't too annoying to listen to, especially as it gets later into the video.... Continue reading →

Let’s begin with the “End”. This wing sauce is not for beginners. Ms. Goofy is crying a tear of ‘Red Savina’ pepper joy, or is it pain?

Buen Apetito a Mexican grill located in Waterville,Maine has a reputation for excellent hot sauces. They now have created a wing sauce that has red Savina Habanero peppers in its ingredient mix. When I found a sample of this new sauce on my doorstep, I rushed to the store and bought some chicken wings. The thermometer outside our house reads a brisk 33 degrees. This will be perfect weather to fire up the grill and give this sauce a try.

Why is it that every time I review a Zane & Zack's product, I can't find the bottle or jar for reference? When completing a review form posting on this site, I'll almost always go back to the product for a refresher in order to flesh out my original notes on it. When I went to grab my bottles of Stinger and Stinger X, the fantastic new sauces that helped Zane & Zack's World Famous Honey Co. snag the "Best of Show" honor at this year's ZestFest, they were no where to be found in my fridge.

Well, I also lacked a shot of the bottles themselves, even though I had plenty of pics with the sauce on food. Therefore, missing bottles equals no photos from me. What's worse is that there are very few high quality photos of ANY of Zane and Zack's sauces and dips on the internet to "borrow" (let alone Stinger and Stinger X, where they are non-existent); and even Zane & Zack's own website only has the low resolution pictures of the Stinger labels to see to the right of this text... Continue reading →

(fair amount of salt, although that is not listed, unless it is considered a spice).

Appearance: The sauce looks OK in the bottle. The color is a pale yellowish / orange. It is much lighter than it appears in the photo.
The consistency is weird, the sauce pours out in clumps. There is some texture from the pepper pulp, and a nice amount of seeds.
The opening in the top of the bottle is unrestricted, which is good, as the thickness and clumping would clog a smaller opening. Even though it is not listed on the bottle ingredients, there must be some sort of emulsifier in the sauce.
